Tyranny of the urgent. Even if you’re not familiar with this phrase, you’ve doubtless felt it: it’s the constant pull felt by the mountain of small tasks and unending checklists. And, if left unchecked, the urgent things can cause well-meaning nonprofit and church leaders to neglect mission-critical components such as vision, strategy, and program/process improvement.
But well-structured, effective programs require intentional checks “under the hood”– what’s working? What’s not? How can you tell? Measurement of long-term results such as employment, education, stable housing, and family reunifications can guide this important process– but where does one even begin in measuring progress in those key areas?
