One crucial element in effective poverty resolution is hope– men and women experiencing poverty must believe that a better future is not only possible, but awaits them. The Gospel is not only uniquely positioned to deliver this fresh hope, but also to inform each person of his or her value, creative capacity, and purpose. For this reason, it is critically important that poverty alleviation efforts not only address physical needs, but also addresses deep spiritual needs that can exacerbate material symptoms of poverty.
