Parents in poverty are often reminded of their inability to provide gifts for their own children through well-intentioned but short-sighted toy giveaway programs. Fortunately, there are alternative Christmas programs that find dignifying, creative ways to give parents the opportunity to take the lead in providing a joy-filled Christmas for their kids.

Debbie Wells is a case manager at InnerMission, the outreach arm of The Gate Church that runs an affordable Christmas Market to help low-income families in their community and connect them to the church.
Bryan Lewis is the President and CEO of Hope House Ministries, a nonprofit that operates an affordable Christmas program each year that allows parents to provide gifts for their children for one-tenth of the retail value.
